Safety Vests Remind America To Be Safe And Cautious
Those bright neon green and orange vests have undoubtedly been seen as you drive by schools, construction sites or at the occasional fender bender. safety vest made their appearance as they became a statement for safe drivers to be cautious around road workers. Their fluorescent and reflective appearance is designed for anyone to see, especially on the roads and highways.
Hunters don the blaze orange color by law today when hunting game in the woods on their safety t-shirt. These sportsmen are easily seen by other hunters in the same vicinity that might mistake their movements for those of a deer or other large game. In fact the hunters were very concerned the bright orange apparel would hinder the sport they enjoy. Some researchers began a study to determine the colors that deer could see. It turns out deer cannot detect the neon orange and in fact, they are more likely to spot the hunter by scent and movement.
People walking, running, cycling and hiking also wear the neon gear. The sports have become safer as the visibility of the enthusiasts alert drivers on roads and highways of their presence. Marathons and bike races around the country have joined the nation to protect their participants in annual events.
A regulatory act from the federal level was enacted to include the media with safety gear in a bright neon color when working on federal highways,especially at rights-of-ways. These intersections were built as part of the federal highway systems. Laws required road workers on the federal roads and then the state roads to be protected; the media became protected as well.
Proof for the value of the safety vest is found in its use for Police Officers. The number of Policemen killed by firearms was the most devastating statistic. In 2009, that changed for on duty Police Officers. Three-thousand of America's finest were saved by wearing the specially designed protective vest colored blue with retro-reflectors.
The hot orange neon vests can be seen all over cities and on highways. Wherever there are city workers, traffic directors, construction crews, medical and paramedic services the fashion statement for safety is made. The bikers, walkers and traffic guards are safer and even some therapy dogs have been sporting the bright orange as they walk with owners through town.
Class 1 is a bright color used for low visibility by government and state workers who are exposed to slow traffic. This includes workers around sidewalks,maintenance crews and parking lot attendants. The next Class 2 vest is approved for people who work near traffic that goes about 25 miles per hour and the protective garment has intermediate visibility. Finally, workers exposed to traffic going speeds of 50 mph wear Class 3 protection, which is at the highest visibility to keep employees safe.
In conclusion, safety vests and orange t-shirts are popular in work and recreation places all over cities in the US and other countries. The idea was a great one that came from a nonprofit organization, American National Standards Institute (ANSI) that sets standards for the US and influences the world. Legislation did not have to pass laws to require their use till 2008. Until then, they were widely worn by most industry workers which adopted the ANSI standards.
