Is It Cruel or Inhumane to Use a Dog Bark Collar?
The chances are you'll invariably hear that you should never use a Dog Bark Collar on your dog because they're cruel and inhumane. You may try to ask the persons who say such thing about the dog bark collar if they’ve ever seen such device or maybe if they’ve tried one, in order to feel how it works. Ironically however, they will all answer they never seen the device but they’ve heard about it, of course, from another person who never saw it.
It is very simple to check how inhumane are these collars even if you don’t have one at hand to test it, as you just need to know they are powered by two small penlight batteries, and think at how much harm can they really do. Dogs don’t understand electricity the way we do, because if they did, they will not be scared by the mild shock and the use of the dog bark collar won’t give any results with them. These collars don’t have the power to hurt or to cause any pain, and their efficiency is based on the surprise effect, due to the fact the dog does not understand what happens. Not even when you set the collar to deliver the maximum intensity shock you won’t feel any pain while testing it.

When talking to people opposing to the use of these collars it’s quite easy to make them recognize these devices cannot hurt a dog in any physical way, but they will still argue that they could mentally or emotionally affect them. The dog cannot know that you are ultimately responsible for the correction he or she receives, but even so they will consider normal to be corrected when they don’t submit to your commands.
Moreover, dogs are intelligent animals and, though they don’t understand what exactly happens, they will learn in a very short time to avoid correction just by ending their bark. There are different categories of collars, but most of them will firstly warn the dog to stop barking by a buzzing sound before the electrical shock is delivered, and this way the dog will learn to associate the two types of stimuli. For example, if your dog barks once or twice, nothing happens, but if it continues barking, the collar makes a buzzing sound, and if the barking continues, a very mild correction is given. Should the dog choose to ignore the correction, the following correction will be slightly more intense, and the following, a little bit more intense. In rare cases will a dog receive the strongest shock.
The most intelligent dogs will need a day or two to stop barking at the warning buzz.
The use of the Dog Bark Collar is allowed in Europe, as they are built in accordance with the provisions of the strictest anti cruelty laws in the world. In truth, a more successful training method doesn't exist. While professional dog trainers can on occasions teach a dog to stop barking without the use of a collar, the success rate leaves a lot to be desired, and there's even less chance of success if you're not a professional trainer. Nobody appreciates a dog that never stops barking, and in fact, many dogs end up being poisoned by angry neighbors because of it. The neighbors can also force you by law to give your dog away.
